Registered Nurses typically earn about $15-20/hour on average. Opportunities for overtime and shift differential exist in many areas of the country (U.S.) that allow RNs to earn an average of $45-50K/year. While it is not among the highest paid careers in the medical profession, it does offer other rewards in the form of job security, placement, advancement, and personal reward.

It depends on the area of the country that you live in. Areas that have higher costs of living pay more, as do those who have nursing unions. In the southeast, a new RN graduate can expect to start out at about $22 hour.
