Doctors are trained to perform lumbar punctures on adult. Their lumbar spine, which is where the needle is inserted, is naturally in a different position due to the height of an adult. Since children are smaller, and have a shorter spine, their lumbar spine is in a different position. It's not that much more difficult to do it on a child, the doctor just has to break from his natural thought process and locate the lumbar spine in a different position.
I just checked with my local pain management clinic and was told it will be 4,274 for a discogram/discography of the lumbar spine and 1,728 if you need the associated lumbar facet block
Osteoarthritis of lumbar spine (low back) is a very common form of arthritis that is commonly called "wear and tear" arthritis since it is usually due to the kind of stressful things that happen to people as they go through life (falls, heavy and awkward lifting, prolonged standing, prolonged forward flexion, pregnancy, poor posture, etc.). Osteoarthritis can affect any joint in the body, but is especially common in the lumbar spine because so much mechanical stress is applied to this area of the spine during the course of the and by most activities. Another term for lumbar osteoarthritis is lumbar spondylosis.
No. The Spinal cord or column should have nature curvatures. Natural curvature occurs at all 5 regions of the spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccygeal region). However, too much curvatures can cause problems, such as scoliosis.
The cost of lumbar spine X-rays can vary widely depending on factors such as location, facility type, and whether you have insurance. On average, prices can range from $100 to $1,000, with uninsured patients typically facing higher costs. It's advisable to check with local imaging centers and your insurance provider for specific pricing and coverage details.
Absolutely! They have features unique to the region they are found in, relating to structure and therefore function. Typical cervical vertebrae (C3-C6) usually have bifid spinous processes which point slightly inferiorly. The spinous processes on lumbar vertebrae are oblong in shape and point directly posteriorly. The articular facets of cervical vertebrae face superior-inferiorly, whereas lumbar articular facets face medial-laterally. Cervical vertebrae have transverse foramen on right and left(containing the vertebral arteries), lumbar have none. They have mamillary processes on their superior articular processes. The bodies of lumbar vertebra are larger and thicker than cervical vertebrae, though they are oval/kidney shaped shaped in both regions. The transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae are much longer, for muscle attachment. Cervical vertebrae have anterior and posterior tubercles extending from their transverse processes. The pedicles of lumbar vertebrae are slightly longer and more defined than those of cervical vertebrae. I think that covers everything, let me know if you think of anything else!
Being completely paralyzed from the lower lumbar area where your L2 vertebrae is located on your spine. In basic terms, it's pretty much being paralyzed from the waist down.
The cost for lumbar disc surgery will cost between $20,000 and $50,000, for patients that do not have insurance. This would include the surgeon's fee, the anesthesiologist fee, and the hospital fee.
Yes, they have a spine much like a human.
A monkeys spine contains, much more vertebrae, than the human spine. And it curves over too. The upper lip protrudes more and the head is much bigger.

Means that the discs in between your vertebrae in your "L" or lumbar or lower back have squeezed out a bit. In-between you discs you have squishy fluid like substance that helps cushion when you walk, run and pretty much do anything with your spine. Sometimes when you either lift wrong, twist or compress your back those squishy discs can protrude outwards. Sometimes causing a nerve to be pinched or your vertebrae to rub together, bone on bone. It is not a good thing and you should see a Dr. or chiropractor.
