Most doctors will recommend that you be at least 12 years of age to dance en pointe.
To dance regular ballet you can be just about any age. To dance en pointe you should be AT LEAST 11.
It doesn't always depend on age it is usually dependant on how strong ones ankles are. But do bare in mind that one should never let a five year old on pointe that would be pretty stupid. If you yourself want to dance on pointe and think you are strong and sensible enough then if you have a dance coach/teacher then why dont you ask them ? And if you are aloud on pointe then make sure they are properly fitted at a local dance shop and not just bought off the internet! From Eden (Dancer since 2 and a half years of age) xx
A safe age to start pointe is ages 11 to 13, which is when the growth plates of the ankle have fused. Starting pointe before this has the potential to permanently disfigure the ankle and/or foot. Also generally before this girls have not had enough strength training to sustain them en pointe.
age is not really a factor when it comes to going on pointe. it is in the strength of the dancer but because the foot and body do not stop developing until late teens, most proper dance instructors will not allow a child to go on pointe until the age of 11.
no, you are never too old to learn something new! Dancing is fun and as long as you think you can you will! yes i agree to all that, but getting to dance en pointe is a very long, time consuming process (take it from experience!) but if you really want it, and your willing to put in the necessary time, then go for it. never buy pointe shoes without a dance teacher or someone qualified to tell you that your ankles are strong enough, or else you will hurt your ankles. good luck!
The average age for a ballet dancer to begin pointe is 12 years old. This allows time for the dancer's bones to develop. There is no specific age however, that one begins pointe. To begin pointe a dancer must not only have been trained in ballet for a number of years and have acheived a certain skill level, but they must also have acquired the neccesary muscles and strength in the ankle, legs etc. to begin pointe work. A dance teacher will be able to determine the physical readiness of a dancer in regards to begining pointe.
So I have a question, I'm 18 years old and have been doing dance for 3 years. Before that I did gymnastics for 5 years so I have strong ankles. I just graduated and I really want pointe shoes. I no longer go to my studio but I will be dancing in college. My dance teachers never looked at me to go on pointe because I started so late, at 15. Is it a good idea to get pointe shoes now and just work at the bar until I take classes in college? Please help I don't know what to do?
You can, but you have a better risk of getting injuries. If you feel you are ready then do it. Think about your ankles and if they are properly developed as well as your hips and other parts of your body you need to worry about. You also need to strengthen your ankles so they will be ready for pointe. I advise not to dance on pointe straight away.
Yes you can, doctors recommend it if your child doesn't eat much.
talk to your teacher about it, he/she may not let you on en pointe because of age or how strong you are. i am i 14 year old dancer and i just got on en pointe at 12.5 and it hurt my feet alot because my body wasnt use to it so cheer up you will get pointe shoes sooner or later. if you still think your teacher is being racist toward you then change to a different school. good luck!
There is no specific age line for starting to wear pointe shoes, however, most dance teachers would not encourage girls under the age of around 12 to wear them. The main deciding factor is the strength of the dancer, and dancing capability (around grade 5).
Of course not! I am 12 and have been dancing for 6 years. You are definitely not too old. :) I recommend that you start it! You should check out my blog! princessballet.wordpress.com
