Paramedics are trained in Advanced Life Support (ALS) procedures. They may work on an ambulance, rescue truck or for a company that feels the need for a paramedic exists, such as a chemical plant or oil rig.

Paramedics are licensed by their state and by national registry. They are able to administer certain life saving drugs. They are able to administer emergency care to their patient while in route to the hospital emergency room.

Some of the procedures that a paramedic may perform while on an ambulance include:
