Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that is meant to remove unwanted/unnecessary deposits of fat-cells. Liposuction is not meant to permanently prevent a person from gaining weight (as is common with LapBand weight-loss surgery), however to remove the previously accumulated deposits. The Surgeon will remove the fat by using a suction assisted wand which will suck the fat cells out. This wand can have a few types of tips to assist with the procedure and protect the patient from unnecessary trauma. One tip uses ultrasonic vibrations to "shake" the fat loose, once uses a laser to "melt the fat" and another uses a water-jet tip to "blast" the fat free. Overall the procedure is getting much safer and less traumatic, however recovery time can take several months for a full recovery.
