A stroke is now called a CVA, (Cerebrovascular accident), and can be defined as a rapid developing loss of brain function(s) due to a loss of blood supply to the brain. Caused by a thrombosis, (occlusion), or embolism, (a blood clot something foreign in the blood stream). and intra-cranial bleeding, (burst blood vessel).
CausesFactors that could lead to a stroke include advanced age, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, high cholesterol, cigarette smoking and atrial fibrillation. Hypertension is the most important modifiable risk of a stroke.
