Of course they do interning before they graduate medical school. Within that internship, they are working under a close watch of a physician or attending with limited services that you are only licensed or by law allowed to do. After graduation and passing your boards, you will become what is called a resident. You will go through your residency as if you're still interning but your services won't be limited because you would have already had a legal degree. You will still be working under an attending or chief resident until your residency is over, and then you're FREE.
