D.M.D. is an abbreviation for Dentariae Medicinae Doctorae. Translated, this means Doctor of Dental Medicine. Internationally, there are three different degrees given for dentists. Outside of the US, it is common to see B.D.S. which stands for Bachelor of Dental Science. The other commonly seen degree is D.D.S. - the familiar Doctor of Dental Surgery. There is a very slight variation between the three, and I discuss it in more detail on our practice blog, linked in my profile.
