* An obstetric nurse assists in obstetric theatre. Obstetrics being the medical field that deals with pregnancy and childbirth. Procedures in theatre include Cesarian section, ERPC, manual removal of placenta MROP, difficult forceps and ventous delivery as well as any difficult suturing that needs to take place. An Obstertic nurse will assist as scrub nurse for these procedures, making sure (with the help of the circulator) that the correct instruments are handed to the physician and that swabs, needles and instruments are accounted for. The obstetric nurse is also responsible for dressings, fluids and aftercare of the patient immediately following any procedure.
