According to what I have read, an Obstetrician is a Gynecologist, but a Gynecologist is not always an Obstetrician. Being an Obstetrician you must be able to identify, treat and handle the female reproductive system just like a Gynecologist. However, I believe you can practice being an Obstetrician without beings a Gynecologist. If your more keen on just the delivery and treatment for newborns, consider neonatology.
