If the victim is in a polluted environnement (smoke ..., chemical...) , the first thing to do is to try to extirpate the victim from the danger.

If the suffocation is due to an object blocking the breathing, you must first look in the mouth and if you can see the object, try to hook it with a finger. If you can not see it, and if the victim is still conscious, you can give five slaps in the upper back (between the shoulder blades) to help the victim expel the object by coughing, if slapping is not successful, the Heimlich method can be used.
