Dry skin is very common during winter and if you don't take it seriously, it could turn into a more complicated skin disease.
To prevent skin drying and cracking, follow the simple tips below:
1. Bath time - take shorter baths as water, especially hot water, can cause skin dryness. Ensure to use non-allergenic soap and choose soaps or body wash rich in creamy moisturizers.
2. Moisturizer - after bathing (or even washing of hands), don't fail to moisturize to keep skin soft and smooth. While your skin is still moist, apply a generous amount of lotion or moisturizer to "seal" the moisture in.
3. Don't scratch - when you have dry skin, the tendency is for that area to turn itchy and red. Refrain from scratching as it will cause further irritation on the skin. Try using cold compress or applying aloe vera on the affected skin.
4. Watch your food and water intake - check your diet and ensure to eat lots of skin foods rich in vitamin A (carrots, citrus fruits), Potassium (banana, potatoes, squash), vitamin E (corn, oats, spinach), and essential fatty acids (walnuts, salmon).
