There are a lot of very good quick clot powders (e.g. QuikClot) available that stop all manner of blood loss form nasty wounds and hurt a lot as they do it too.Gunpowder (black powder) is not a common propellant in modern bullets. Most use nitrocellulose or other similar chemicals. In a deep wound these could casue a lot of gas overpressure in the wound which would undo the good the cauterizing fixes.
