Alcohol is not the best choice for cleaning wounds. The reasons are that it's very painful for the patient, and unless you completely submerge the affected area, it's not very effective as a germicide. Alcohol is used more for disinfection instruments and sometimes the unbroken skin of a topical location prior to injection. Depending on the size of what you're disinfection, you can do the following: * For large open wounds, flushing with sterile saline works great. If the wound is infected, you can also fluch with antibiotics, but this is more of an inpatient treatment. * For small wounds, Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) 3 percent solution works very well. The good things about this antiseptic are that it loses that exrta oxygen atom as part of disinfecting, and all that remains is water, so it won't stain and will evaporate without leaving a residue. In clinical tests, it was rated as the most effective/deadly to germs of the topical antiseptics. The only problem is that oxydation also can injure healthy cells. Also, while Hydrogen peroxide can be safely used in the mouse (3%, spit it out when you're done), it should be kept away from other sensitive areas. If you have to use alcohol, you need one that has a relative high percentage of alcohol in the bottle. The minimum is 40% (or 80 proof). If you have to use ethanol (drinking alcohol), use vodka -- no additional stuff to cmplicate the procedure. Again though, alcohol is not the best to clean wounds.
they would use it to clean wounds and some times drink it
Yes. But I would also use an antiseptic. then go see a doctor.

Rubbing alcohol, also known as isopropyl alcohol, is commonly used as a disinfectant to clean wounds and surfaces. It can also be used to remove sticky residue, clean electronics, and sanitize tools. To effectively utilize rubbing alcohol, apply it directly to the surface or use it with a cloth or cotton ball for cleaning and disinfecting.
you shouldn't use alcohol to clean any piercings. You can use alcohol to disinfect your jewelry but not the piercing itself. It dries it out.
To help prevent infection by ensuring no germs get in the wounds from the cotton.

You never use any type of alcohol to clean any piercing. Use a mixture of natural sea salt and warm water. Alcohol kills whats helping your piercing heal.
