because we like take out chips and we need paper. another reasoin might be because they feel the amazon is soo big that they wouldn't be affecting it much but in a long period of time it will slowly decrease in size

Loggers are cutting down trees in the Amazon rainforest at twice the rate of previous estimates. In a survey of Brazil's top five timber-producing states, selective logging accounts for the removal of up to 50 million cubic metres of wood per year. Most of the cutting is for gracing cattle.
