It is the accumulation of the fluid in the interstitial space between body cells and tissues that contains white blood cells. basically it can be thought of as a build up of fluid in the body. It usually occurs in the ankles.
Fatty ankles can be caused by various factors, including genetics, obesity, and fluid retention. Conditions such as lymphedema or venous insufficiency can also lead to swelling and accumulation of fat in the ankle area. Additionally, a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet may contribute to overall weight gain, affecting body fat distribution, including around the ankles.
That is called Edema, an accumulation of fluid in the tissues and cells. Below is a link to Ankle swelling.
What an understatement. That is a little like saying that it's "really bad" to have any disease! And does nothing to answer the question. So, basically, Edema is observable swelling from fluid accumulation in body tissues and most commonly occurs in the feet and legs, where it is referred to as peripheral edema. Most people see it primarily in the ankles. The swelling is the result of the accumulation of excess fluid under the skin in the spaces within the tissues. Lymphedema occurs when your lymph vessels are unable to adequately drain lymph fluid and can be either Primary or Secondary. Lymphedema can't be cured. It can, and generally does, result in long-term physical, psychological, and social issues for patients. The symptoms are excessive swelling in the area of your body where the lymph system was damaged. The best physical treatment is called Manual Lymph Drainage Massage (this treatment focuses on minimizing the swelling and controlling the pain), compression stockings, diet, and weight management.
We bend primarily at our joints... like ankles, wrists, elbows, etc.
Elasticated ankles are, clothing that have an elastic finishing at the ankles.
Peripheral oedema is the abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the extremities, typically affecting the legs, ankles, and feet. It can result from various factors, including heart failure, kidney problems, liver disease, or prolonged standing or sitting. Symptoms often include swelling, a feeling of heaviness, and changes in skin texture. Management depends on the underlying cause and may involve lifestyle changes, medications, or compression therapy.
Hypoalbuminemia is a condition caused by low levels of blood protein, specifically albumin. This can lead to the accumulation of water in tissues, a condition known as edema. Edema causes swelling and can occur in various parts of the body, such as the legs, ankles, and abdomen.
Tissue fluid can accumulate in the ankles because of gravity, which makes it harder for fluid to be pumped back up to the heart. Additionally, conditions like venous insufficiency or heart failure can impair the blood flow, leading to fluid pooling in the lower extremities.
Genetics..out of your control.
