What does local mean in medical terms?

Local basically means restricted to one specific region.

While general means overall or felt throughout the body.

Two examples

Example 1: Pain

Local- pain can be local or localized meaning it is felt in just one area.

General- pain on the other hand is felt all over the body.

Example 2: Anesthesia

Local anesthesia- refers to the numbing of one area that is to be operated on. this is used in minor surgery

General Anesthesia- refers to placing the entire body in a sleep like state for the purposes of major surgery.
