Necrotizing sialometaplasia is a benign condition characterized by the necrosis of salivary gland tissue, typically affecting the minor salivary glands in the oral cavity. It often presents as a painful ulcer or lesion, commonly found on the hard palate. The exact cause is unclear, but it is thought to be related to ischemia or trauma. Although it can mimic malignancy, necrotizing sialometaplasia generally resolves spontaneously within a few weeks to months.
