Sigmoidcele, often referred to as sigmoid colon diverticulum, is a medical condition characterized by the formation of a pouch or diverticulum in the sigmoid colon, which is part of the large intestine. This can occur due to increased pressure in the colon, often associated with constipation or straining during bowel movements. While many individuals with sigmoidcele may remain asymptomatic, it can sometimes lead to complications such as inflammation or infection known as diverticulitis. Treatment may involve dietary changes, medications, or, in severe cases, surgery.
