The logo is actually the Caduceus which was the rod carried by Hermès - Herald of Gods.

It is a staff entwined by two snakes, sometimes surmounted by wings.

But this use is due to a confusion with the rod of Aesculapius, Ancient Greek symbol symbolising Medecine.

Despite the resemblance, the rod of Aesculapius has only one snake and has no wings.

In France, the symbol for medecine men is called Le Caducée but is actually the rod of Aesculapius representation.
