It is an evaluation and management code for a physician to patient phone conversation for 5-10 minutes. It requires that there was not a previous office visit in the past seven days for the problem that was discussed, nor will there be in the next 24 hours or next available appointment. It is intended so that the physician may seek reimbursement for advice given on the phone, advice for which he or she is liable. It should be used when the phone conversation is in the place of an office visit.
