The brain belongs primarily to the nervous system, but is involved in almost all other systems of the body. The hypothalamus of the brain innervates the pituitary gland on the brain, the master [endocrine] gland. In talking about the autonomic nervous system; as a stress response, the sympathetic nervous system will increase respiratory rate, circulatory rate, inhibits peristalsis of the digestive tract, and will increase the firing potential of receptor sites in muscle. These are just some examples, but the brain is a member of truly only the nervous system.
