Any nation that is at odds with the US, "might" cause a man to lose his citizenship if he joined a foreign military. When using the term "American", Canadians consider themselves to be (North) Americans.
Benedict Arnold started his career as a military leader during the American Revolutionary War, where he initially fought for the American Continental Army. However, he later became a turncoat and switched sides to join the British, betraying the American cause. As such, his leadership can be categorized as military, but not in a positive sense as he ultimately became a traitor to his own army.

Kyrgyzstan.
of course not __ The Russian government amended their laws so foreigners could join their military. The conditions are so appalling (abuse, lack of proper training, poor food, brutality) that most Russians do anything to avoid service. As a result the Russian military is desperate to fill their ranks. In 2009, they began allowing foreigners to join up. You have to sign a 5 year commitment, speak Russian and have no criminal record. As for joining the Special Forces, it's hard to say, because so few foreigners have joined. You would have to contact the Russian military and ask. It's not listed on their website. Because of the highly sensitive nature of the Spetsnaz, it would be very difficult for a foreigner to be trusted at that level. If you join the Russian Army, you stand a good chance of loosing your American citizenship because you would have to swear an oath of allegiance to the Russian government.
