In WWI America's military was barely used in any combat and suffered hardly any loses as America was mainly just giving supplies to other countries who were fighting. Americans did not want to get involved at all in WWI and WWII and tried to keep a neutral stance till they had no choice as their country was in danger or American lives had been lost. In WWI Americans become scared that communism would take over while many did not understand what WWII was about. Strikes in the work force happened during both wars as did an economic boom. In both wars America and England became top negotiators in peace treats yet in WWI America choose to stay out of the League of Nations and world affairs; unlike WWII which instead of retreating at the wars end they stayed involved with what was happening. They were not prepared for WWI as they were for WWII as FDR knew they would be forced into the war again so he prepared America economically and militarily. Diplomatically, Wilson's reason to enter WWI was to end the war and keep democracy safe consequently the nation got war fever. FDR's reason was to get Germany first (revenge) so then the Allies could concentrate on Japan.

The Presidents and leaders as the time accounted for America's participation in the wars. They chose when to enter the war, whom (countries) to help, reason for entering, what to contribute to the war, and how to advertise the war thus patriotism would rise and they would gain the nation's approval.
