Technically the Confederates started the war by attacking Union soldiers at Fort Sumter, and therefore the North had to repsond by declaring war.
However, the only reason why President Lincoln wanted to go to war was to keep the Union together and regain the states that had already left the country.
Slavery was a big factor why the Confederates left the Union, but it wasn't the only reason. And Lincoln did not make it a goal of the North to to free all slaves until later in the war in his Emancipation Proclamation.
The Civil War started because the North wanted to abolish (Destroy) slavery, but the South did not. This was not the only problem the Civil War started. The Civil War started because: A) North wanted Tarrifs, South did not. B) Wanted to get rid of slavery, South didn't C) Decision on whether a new territory would become a Slave or Free state
The major disagreement that helped unfold the US Civil War was the view by Southern states that they had the right to remove themselves from the United States. The primary view in the North regarding slavery was that most believed it should not extend to new territories and new states. They and Lincoln were fine to let it exist where it already existed. The US Supreme Court in 1859 stated that slavery was constitutional. Therefore only an amendment to the US Constitution could abolish slavery. This was passed in December of 1865, the 13th amendment. Also, for many Northerners, the secession of the Southern slave states ended the problem. It ended if the South was allowed to secede. US President Lincoln decided that it was better to keep the US united at any cost. This was not a national view point and Lincoln's presidential run did not claim he intended to end slavery.
True
When the constitution was being forged, there was much discussion about what exactly the nation was to be. Some wanted only the loosest of connections between the states, with states being more like individual nations and the Federal Government being little more than a common union, agreeing to join together to protect from outside forces that would attempt to harm any state. When the northern states decided that slavery was to be illegal, southern states were concerned about how they would continue to run their plantations. The issue of "states rights" was one of the largest concerns during the time before the civil war broke out. Southern states wanted to decide for themselves if slavery was to be legal, not letting northern states make such decisions for them. People from the north found the practice to be so reprehensible that they wanted to force the south to stop the practice. While slavery was a significant reason for the civil war, States Rights divided the nation and the defeat of states rights was a significant blow to the efforts of the original founders of the constitution.
One reason the slavery issue came up, was that it was competition against the North for business. The South was just plain outproducing the North by quite a bit because slaves were completely faster at picking than any machine at that time. This made the business leaders in the North lose out by quite alot. The business leaders pressed and lobbied the politicians to outlaw slavery, put tariffs on the South's imports, and many more unfair things done to the people in the south. The Southerners were just plainly getting crapped on because of some greedy Yankees who needed more money. This issue would probably not have blown out in a total war if the South would have not been willing to kill for their rights, but they split off in their own country, and federal law states that no state or states can just leave the U.S. any time they want. So, naturally the union goes down and starts battling the Confederates. Meanwhile to justify the war, Lincoln signs the Emancipation Proclamation, to free the slaves. What they don't tell you is that the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves "only in the south." The "South" considered themselves their own country at that time, so naturally they ignored the U.S.'s laws because it wasn't theirs. Long story short, the Union beat the Confederates and the Union made a big deal about slavery and how the war was all about freeing the slaves in order to make themselves look good.

because he is the only one that wanted slavery to stop and when he died it did

Slavery was not spread to the north, first of all, because the north didnt industrialise their farming for cash crops. Another reason was because the north had bad soil conditions, so they could only far food. Most of all. Northeners were strongly against slavery because they thought it was wrong.
Only southern farmers wanted railroad regulation. Only southern farmers wanted to form Granges. The South wanted slaves and the North opposed slavery. Also, the North wanted the nation to turn industrial, not agricultural. Like making manufactored goods and not crops like corn and cotton and beans.

he actually only wanted to win the war but he was against slavery
The clause about slavery was removed from the declaration of independence because the writers wanted all the southern states to support it, along with the northern states. If we included that section, America might not even be a country right now, because only the north would have agreed to sign.
Because Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery and the south wanted slavery, so the only way to do that was to leave the USA and become their own country.
No, only in the south colonies. The north colonies were against slavery. There were few in the north colonies.
Many, many people wanted to end slavery. Abraham Lincoln is often identified as the key person, but he certainly was not the only person to wish for slavery to end.
