Slavery ended. But both the North and the South (although to a lesser extent for the North) were not happy with this descision. Although African Americans were free, they still weren't treated with all of the rights that the Constitution gives them. In fact, there were several acts of discrimination against the African Americans, ranging from violent mobs protesting to not excepting Blacks into the army.
During World War I, German Americans faced mistreatment due to widespread anti-German sentiment fueled by propaganda and fear of espionage. Many Americans viewed them with suspicion, associating them with the enemy, leading to social ostracism, violence, and the suppression of German culture, including the banning of the German language in schools and public events. This hostility was compounded by incidents of mob violence and the targeting of German-owned businesses, reflecting the intense nationalism that characterized the wartime atmosphere.

They frequented jazz clubs, dance halls, and bars, where they enjoyed music and dancing, with genres like jazz and swing being particularly popular. Social gatherings, picnics, and community events also provided opportunities for entertainment and cultural expression. Additionally, many African Americans engaged in sports, theater, and film, often creating their own spaces for enjoyment and creativity.

In the 19th century, the pervasive institution of slavery and systemic racism severely restricted the rights and freedoms of African Americans. Many were denied education, political representation, and basic civil liberties, which limited their ability to fully engage with or benefit from significant events, such as abolitionist movements or legislative changes. Additionally, societal prejudices and violence against African Americans often undermined the progress made by these events, stifling their impact on their daily lives.
During the war, the events that undermined Americans civil liberties were not inspiring. The government did things to people that was not right during the first war. The government did such as things where some soldiers weren't the same when the home, the government never supported them back them like they don't now.
