women did a lot of war work in place of the men who were fighting, such as go in the mines, metal work factories, munitions factories etc, which were previously considered a man's job. before the war, politicians didnt want to gove women the vote as they had a separate sphere to men, but after the war, women proved they could do a "man's" job so the spheres were destroyed.
During the war, the WSPU stopped their violent attacks to focus on the war effort, so the government were more likely to give peaceful protestors the vote, as before they didnt want to be seen as giving into terrorists.
David Lloyd George was made new PM after Asquith and he was a lot more sympathetic towards their cause, and was apparently one of their leading supporters in the government (even after the WSPU tried to blow up his new house in 1913).
Finally, there was more pressure on the British government from other countries, as America, New Zealand, and Australia had given the vote to their women, so the British government didnt want to be seen as falling behind other, less developed countries.
Women began working in factories and other jobs previously held by men. This showed there capabilities of doing male work and served as a argument against those advocates of less rights for women.
They started to work in factories, which showed many men that they were a big part of the economy. If they were working for the US, than many people thought that they should have a say in the government of the US. Women's entrance into the workforce during World War I
WW I helped to advance the cause of woman's suffrage. During WW I when large numbers of men entered the military, there was a labor shortage as a result, and it became necessary to employ women to fill in for men who were away. Previously, it was widely believed that women should only have the role of housewives and were not well suited to any other role. When it was seen that women could do work that was previously done by men, this added to the understanding that women do have the full range of human capabilities, and are not just appendages of men.

Women's lives changed a great deal after WW1. No longer were they protected by the innocence of peace. In fact, women became more aware of the global conflicts that surrounded them and their respective nations. The majority of women also went to work to fend for themselves and their children.
