well it stopped the british from have food and supplies because the british had surrendered and the Americans had won. Also after the war the British lost land.
Besides not getting killed or wounded; the only thing that people are concerned about in a "real war" (serious war) is food. People can find shelter, people can sleep anywhere; they can survive pain and horror. No food...they die.
