Union and Confederate forces suffered severe casualties at the Battle of Shiloh. Confederate casualties amounted to 10, 699 and Union casualties were 13, 047. This battle was the bloodiest one in the war at that time in April 1862.

The Battle of Shiloh in April of 1862 was a major two day battle. Casualties on both sides were very high. It was a Northern victory however, Union General Sherman remarked that the death toll was so high that General Grant was deeply effected by the battle. Sherman elaborated on this in his memoirs.

The Battle of Gettysburg was bloodier than the Battle of Shiloh. Gettysburg, fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863, resulted in approximately 51,000 casualties, including killed, wounded, and missing soldiers. In contrast, the Battle of Shiloh, which took place in April 1862, had around 23,000 casualties. This significant difference in casualties highlights Gettysburg as one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War.
