The war began in early August of 1914. The US officially declared war in early april of 1917. That's two years and seven months. Also, the US lacked major military presence until the summer of 1918, so it could almost be said that the US stayed out of combat for nearly four years.

The U.S. wanted to remain neutral before World War 2. But after the attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, America was not hesitant when entering the war.
U.S. stayed neutral for most of the war they only fought for one year and ended the war
You need to clarify this question. Are you asking about conscientous objectors or countries who want to remain neutral and stay out of a war? A conscientious objector can object all he or she wants to as long as there is no draft.
why doe
The Americans had been preparing for a long while. News propaganda had kept the country up to date with the situation with their foreign allies, mainly Britain. Though decidedly neutral and uninvolved in the war, America was preparing for the possibility of assisting these countries. When America finally realized that their allies were failing, they sent in the Americans to provide backup. America helping the important allies (Britain, France, ect.) gave the falling countries a morale boost, just enough to fight back and end the battle.
