In World War II, the "Blitz" campaign was a series of intense, prolonged air attacks by German air forces upon civilian, industrial, and military targets in Great Britain. Beginning in September of 1940 and lasting into May of 1941, the "Blitz" lasted less than a year. While it caused considerable damage, it did not succeed in knocking Great Britain out of the war.
