Approximately 2,200 Alabamians lost their lives during World War I. This number includes those who died in combat as well as from diseases and other war-related causes. Alabama contributed significantly to the war effort, with many residents serving in various capacities. The sacrifices made by these individuals are commemorated in various memorials throughout the state.
