The most common Spitfire Engine (there were a few experimental versions) was the Rolls Royce "Merlin" engine.
Rated from 1250 HP to 2150 HP (Horse Power) this engine was used in many aircraft and built under licence by Alison in the USA among others.
It is also the most common sound effect for aircraft engines in WWII films of the 50s 60s and 70s.
Triumph Spitfire 4 (Mark I & II) (1147 cc)
Triumph Spitfire Mark III & IV (1296 cc)
Triumph Spitfire 1500 (1493cc)
The Supermarine Spitfire has 1 engine and that engine is the mighty Rolls Royce Merlin.
The Spitfire was designed by RJ Mitchell, and built by Supermarine. Many of them were maunfactured in Southampton in Britain.
The Spitfire was a monoplane fighter
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter aircraft. It carried no passengers.
0 it was a fighter plane
The first original spitfire was designed by R.J. Mitchell
There were many marks of Spitfire with different engines and weights. Most cruised between 300 and 350 mph.
There were many models of the Spitfire, with different engines and wings. Early models were around 4,900 pounds empty, and by 1944 most were around 6,600 pounds.
All Spitfires had variations of the Merlin or Griffon engines - both were V12. ie with 12 cylinders.
Only one man piloted a Spitfire, this is the case with all fighter aircraft. -Two men are usually only required in aircraft with complicated armament systems or multi engines.
The Mk II Spitfire had an empty weight of 4,810 pounds. By the end of the war, with bigger engines and guns they weighed 6,900 pounds.
There were at least 22 main models of the Spitfire and these had some variations. Including all variations (different engines, propellers, guns etc,) I would say there were in excess of 50 different models
The Spitfire only had one seat.
The engine is what makes a fighter plane. -Many fighters have been designed around a particular engine, the Spitfire/ Merlin combination for one.
There were many variants of the Spitfire with different wings, fuselages, engines and propellers. Wing spans went from 32 ft for the Mk V up to 40 ft for the high altitude models. The most common wing on many models was 36 ft 10 in.
made aircraft engines for aircraft like the spitfire and so on
There are 22 main models, with many variations. For instance, the Mk IX was fitted with about 3 different engines, also many of the later models could have a 4 or 5 blade propeller.
About 20,000 American spitfire pilots died in WW2.
