The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded in 1909 by a diverse group of activists, including both Black and white individuals. Key figures included W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells, and Moorfield Storey. While the exact number of people involved in its early formation is difficult to pinpoint, the organization quickly grew to include thousands of members across the United States, with local branches expanding its reach and influence. Today, the NAACP boasts a membership in the hundreds of thousands.
