They wouldn't get paid, this just meant that the soldiers did not have to pay for taxes e.t.c
BASICALLY - the romans pay would be transferred onto their taxes, so women would have to pay taxes on their houses while when the men are in the army or have retired from the army they wouldn't have to pay anything.
Hope this helps :D
Depends on rank and length of service.
Basic Salary for a Foot Soldier starts at 13,000 and rises with experience, whereas if you were an officer you would be earning 24,000+ ,
It would depend on which army you mean and the precise rank.

You should bring roman money!
The Roman hierarchy in the beginning was separated into 2 levels. The Patricians: They were BORN into this family. So they are nobles. Then the Plebians: These people where mainly artistans or peasants. Then when the Roman Empire had started 2 more levels where added. The Middle Class: People who had started as Plebians but had now made buisnesses and where making money but not as much as the Patricians. And The Army: They obviously went to the army.
To be accepted into the Roman army one had to be freeborn and relatively physically fit. (If you were accepted, the army would make you physically fit) The obese and mentally deficient were rejected. The Romans did not have much trouble getting volunteers for their army since the pay was steady and a soldier had prestige. This appealed to many of the poor class who had to compete with slave labor to get work.
