How was Germany treated after world war 2 and after world war 1?

After WWI, the Germans could not make their land bigger, and other restrictions, under the treaty of Versailles. In WWII, the Germans were treated fairly, but the militants with the rank major and above were punished.

Compared to the treatment the Germans got after the First World War, they were treated fairly well. The Allies captured Germany to find a nation that was truly defeated.

There was also a sharp division between the German leadership and the ordinary people. Investigations into war crimes were started and at the same time, the Allies began a rebuilding program to start the German nation on the road to recovery. On the one hand, the world sought retribution for the crimes against so many innocent people. On the other, assistance was offered to restore some sense of order and hope to the German majority.

It should be remembered that the extermination of huge numbers of people in camps such as Auschwitz was a crime against their own people. Jews and Roma were targeted but these were largely German citizens who were rounded up and killed in concentration camps. The trials of the war criminals in Germany were conducted to offer a sense of justice to the German people as well as the world.

Many German people found homes on other countries after the war and although treated with a certain amount of caution by their new neighbors, were accepted into countries such as England and America, to name just two.

The German people perhaps had a worse view of themselves than many others. Hitler's reign has remained a source of shame for decades after the end of the war.

Make no mistake, there were individuals and groups who had a lot of hatred for Germany and for the German people. Such views were inevitable after a six year conflict. They were and are still the minority view

In the end of World War 2 the Polish ordered the Germans to leave forfeiting everything they owned. Many were murdered or died of starvation on the travel West.
