Phosgene Gas, Trench Warfare, and Other Deadly Gases of WWI :)
NOTE: This response is by a current student for use on homework... Please remember that my answer may be missing some things, so research from other sites is a beneficial idea! Best of luck to you on your assignment, and I hope this helps!
Phosgene gas was used in a World War One (WWI) style of fighting known as *trench warfare*. It was used by France against Germany as a form of retaliation shortly after the introduction of chlorine gas in April of 1915. Other common gases of WWI include *chlorine, mustard, and vomiting gasses*. Each were designed to kill many troops in a little amount of time.
Phosgene gas caused painful lapses of coughing and choking, as well as respiratory damage from inhalation. It caused a slow death- max. 5 days- in which the victim's throat would cover in sores and eventually close up, resulting in death.
*For more info on trench warfare, and the other types of deadly gases, please see the section after the horizontal line below this text. Thank You!*
NOTE: This selection is provided for your convenience, and to broaden information on the topic... It's an informational read, but I highly suggest you read to enhance your comprehension of the above text. Don't forget about other research!! Thank You!
Trench warfare was a style of WWI fighting, in which there were two distinct sides of inhabitant- one side for each the Allies & the Central Powers. In between was a stretch of uninhabited land- for use of attacking tanks. If a team tried to cross, they were more than likely to be shot, and killed in a heartbeat. On each side there were a series of tunnels, that were open at the top.
Trench warfare was considered a pointless style of fighting, since it was a stalemate- no one particular side usually won or lost anything of importance.
Most soldiers were killed as result of the diseases that spread through the community because of the damp, muddy conditions- among other things. Poor sanitary conditions in the areas used for treating the wounded caused infections that spread throughout the community caused many deaths.
Pardon my answering a question with a question, but-- Do you know how your hands and feet get wrinkled when you stay in water too long? That's exactly what happened to the troops in the trenches... Except this caused their limbs to rot off...
Troops also got diseases from the critters that ran around and nibbled at them- like rats and insects and the like.
Finally, let me explain a little on the other poisonous gases. All of the poisonous gases had the same purpose- as stated in the main body of this text- to kill as many as possible in as little time as possible. The use of poisonous gas in warfare grew to be such an issue that after WWI the use of such in warfare was banned, for moral reasons. No countries have been recorded to break this ban.
Chlorine gas destroys a victim's respiratory organs, and lead to a slow death by asphyxation.
Mustard gas blisters the exposed skin on the victim, as well as their lungs,, eventually blocking airways in a slow, painful death.
Vomiting gas blisters the victims' eyes, causing soreness and dizziness that leads to vomiting.
A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: Thank you for reading this far... :) I hope this has been an informational reading for you and that you learned a lot! Best of luck to you in all you do! <3 Thank you, from the Author of this Text, K.M.

I'm guessing it was Mustard Gas. Later Phosgene was used. The Biological warfare in WW1 was relatively primitive, but nonetheless terrifying for all that, especially if all you had was a handkerchief to cover your face.......
It is important to note that creating phosgene gas is extremely dangerous and illegal. Phosgene gas is a highly toxic chemical that was used as a chemical weapon during World War I. It can cause severe respiratory issues and even death. It is illegal to create phosgene gas without proper authorization and expertise. It is highly recommended to avoid attempting to create phosgene gas under any circumstances.
