I'm writing a paper on this subject right now, and after much digging, found the following two pages very helpful. Here they are:

Due to outbreaks of typhoid and trench foot, the complications brought on by poisonous gas, and the general abominable hygiene of the troops wiping out thousands of soldiers during World War One, Laundry Detachments were officially added to American, Canadian, and British Colonial troops before the Second World War. French forces had been using laundry services for nearly a century previous.
In the USA, these divisions were added to the Quartermasters. These non-combatant troops (though they were frequently killed in action due to their government ruled inability to defend themselves) followed behind the advancing Allied lines, and reduced the outbreaks of typhoid in WW2 to ten percent of it's WW2 contagion.
In future, please phrase your questions in a full sentence, so it is easier to reply to more specifically. Think along the lines of Who, Where, Why, When, What and How. Thanks!
