During WWII the airfield at Heathhall, Dumfries was attacked by a lone fighter and I believe he was shot down and the pilot killed. The pilot was believed to have been buried in Troqueer Church, Dumfries.

Gretna, Dumfriesshire, was bombed on 7th April 1941. Seven bombs were dropped causing the loss of 28 killed.
