Indeed he was. Hitler called a conference of his top generals at his mountain retreat. Some decided that this would be a good opportunity to get rid of Hitler, and they detonated a briefcase full of explosives. Unfortunately, Hitler was protected by the massive weight of the antique conference table, and of course, he survived. The plotters were not so lucky. They were hanged, but instead of using rope for a nice quick death, they were hanged with thin piano wire.
