Stonewall Jackson
Robert E. Lee was a Captain during the Mexican American War. Sterling Price became a Brigadier General after the Taos Revolt and was a General Officer of the Confederate States.
Confederate defeat, and the end of any hopes of Southern dominance of Tennessee. Additional credit to U.S. Grant, who became General-in-Chief of the Union forces.

In February, 1961 Montgomery, Alabama became the first capital city of the Confederate States of America. The capital was moved from Montgomery, Alabama to Richmond, Virginia, in May 1861. When Richmond fell to the Federal army in 1865, the Confederate government travelled to Danville, Virginia. Danville was the seat of the Confederate government for only eight days, April 3-10, 1865. On April 9, 1865 Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, bringing an end to the Civil War after four years of battle.

The Shenandoah Valley in Virginia was the breadbasket for the Confederacy throughout most of the US Civil War. Although General Stonewall Jackson, as a professor at the Virginia Military Institute, before he was commissioned in the Confederate army, he knew little about the Valley he would be commanded to defend. With that in mind, he asked mapmaker J. Hotchkiss to prepare detailed maps of the Valley. Hotchkiss had been a resident of New York who moved before the war to Virginia. He decided to join with his neighbors as a Confederate and was a self taught map maker. His excellent maps were a crucial tool for Jackson.

Confederate General Stonewall Jackson brought in concerns to the Union in June of 1862. After Jackson had taken Front Royal and Winchester, Lincoln became concerned for Washington DC's safety. He with held General McDowell's forces in order to insure the capital was secure. Lincoln ordered General Fremont to enter the Shenandoah Valley and defeat Jackson's forces. Lincoln was insistent on this issue. Nevertheless, Jackson was too smart and swift for Fremont.
General Stand Watie is the Cherokee leader, who rose to the rank of brigadier general in the Confederate army.

Lee was the top Confederate general. Grant eventually became the top Union general.
The naval blockade - it took some time to implement, but it was highly effective. Refusal to trade with the South - so the South had to depend on the Confederate dollar, which became worthless. Punitive raids on Georgia, South Carolina and the Shenandoah Valley - wrecking the farms and railroads, and helping to starve the enemy troops in the field.
Union victories at Mobile Bay and the Shenandoah Valley rescued Lincoln from what looked like a smashing defeat and produced a Presidential victory in 1864.
Georgia was a Confederate State in the US Civil War. It's largest city, Atlanta, became a main target of General Sherman.
Jefferson Davis was the President of the Confederate States of America. General Robert E. Lee became the key military leader of the Confederate army. Abraham Lincoln was the president of the Union. General US Grant became the key military leader in the closing 18 months of the war.
