Is having a powerful military is the only way to protect your country?

No. It is also possible to ally your country with another country that has a powerful military, or to have a country that no one else wants to take over. If these options are unacceptabe, then having a powerful military is the only way to go. *RHONA MAE P. DACUMOS( Baguio City,PHILIPPINES):01-24-10 * NO. Powerful military is not the only way to protect you're country. Unity and diversity of countrymen is the most appropriate way for a nation to protect its country. Even though a country has its powerful military if there is no unity, well it's useless. One instance for that is the ahimsa or the non-violent revolution of the Indians that was led by Mahatma Ghandi during his time. They didn't fought the colonizers using their swords and guns but instead they protest:they dont eat and they even slept on streets. And they luckily achieve their independence. Well, it's just life..today we are in the future..and non-violent revolutions are useless if there are high quality guns and self propelling weapons...and i just think so that all of us can now depend on that powerful military...

What is the highest paid military position?

Commander-in-chief (the president.) Other than that, probably the Chief of staff. Now, for pure military, it's most likely General Of The Army.... Actually, if you consider positions with the military that aren't military in and of themselves, it's Navy's football coach (somewhat over $1million, compared to the $400k for the President).
