Five important battles or sites during the Revolutionary War are as follows: First and second, the towns of Lexington and Concord served as the first two battlegrounds of the conflict; indeed, the War began as a result of these two battles. Third, the city of Philadelphia was a vitally important site due to its establishment as the American capitol. Fourth, the town of Saratoga in New York was an important site on account of the turning-point battles that took place there in 1777. Finally, Yorktown (Virginia) is yet another key site, as it served as the final major battle of the entire War and led directly to the American victory.
