The rather basic, slow moving, under-armed tank. But it could have proved to be a powerful weapon. Unfortunately it was not used properly. Mainly because some generals were still out of touch with modern warfare and still unable to accept more modern weapons and troop movement.

Describe how and from what the tank developed?

The tank developed during World War I as a response to the challenges of trench warfare, where traditional infantry tactics were ineffective against fortified positions. It emerged from the need for a vehicle that could traverse rough terrain, break through enemy lines, and provide protection for soldiers. The first practical tanks, like the British Mark I, were essentially armored vehicles equipped with tracks to navigate mud and obstacles, combining features from existing military vehicles and agricultural machinery. This innovation transformed warfare by enabling mobile, armored assaults on entrenched positions.
