There were two sides in WW1 one was the Central Powers and the other one Allies. The countries that were in Central Powers were Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey and Bosnia. The countries that were in Allies were Britain, Serbia, Russia, Belgium and France, there were more but they didn't do much they were Italy, Romania, Greece and Portugal. Switzerland and the USA joined Allies later on in the war.
Japan did not join the Central powers, it joined the allied powers.
In World War I, the Central Powers were Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman empire. They were joined by Bulgaria in 1915. Italy refused to go to war despite the Triple Alliance, and later joined the Allies (the Entente Powers led by Great Britain, France, and Russia).
Germany's allies in the "Central Powers" were:Austria-HungaryOttoman Empire (joined the Central Powers in 1914) (later on became known as Turkey)Bulgaria (joined the Central Powers in 1915)

In WWI, the USA was part of the Allied Powers, and the Central Powers were a coalition of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman. In the battle betwen the United States and the Central Powers, the United States along with the rest of the Allied Powers won.
Russia supported Serbia first, then when Germany entered the war (on the side of Austria-Hungary--the Central Powers), France and Britain joined in as well (on the side of Serbia--The Allies). Bulgaria joined in later (Central Powers), as did Italy (Allies). As it became truly a world war, Japan and the United States joined (part of the Allies), and so did the Ottoman Empire (Central Powers), and several other countries such as Portugal, Romania, etc. on the Allied side.
Starting in October 1914, Turkey joined on Germany's side in WW1, the central powers, then in the May of 1915, joined the allied powers.
