Most work in occupations such as factory work, was done by men. When they left to go fight the war, there was a large increase in women who went to work in these factories. This helped lead to an increase in women workers, and a shift in the social status of women after the war.

This is not a traditional job for women and most are seen as unable to do the work. I have known women who did go into the this type of work and often they are harassed on the job by male workers. It takes a tough lady to stand up to the work and the men.
The men did most the "Dirty" work such as field tilling and blacksmith type things. The women took care of the children, cooked, and cleaned the house, taught the girls how to do "their" jobs. =]
