Agreements at Potsdam and Yalta left the fallen Japan under the control of the US who took on a procedure of democratising and demilitarising the state. Senator Joe McCarthy was overseeing this and also broke japans financial strength by dissolving Japanese businesses. This was reversed in 1948 with growing concerns over the rise of communism in China. The Truman administration thought rehabilitation of Japan would stop communist festering in the state. It was therefore rehabilitated for security reason in keeping with the US policy of Containment in the Cold War. There were also economic reasons for the reverse course. USA acknowledged the importance of Japan in the global trade system and for capitalism. It was in their economic interest to have a strong Japan. Some also argue that the rebuilding of Japan was also a means of threatening china and Russia. Both states were furious at the USA
