In World War II, when America got into the war, most all the men went to fight. When the men were out in the war, there was no one or little amounts of people working at the factories. So the government posted signs everywhere to encourage the women to work at the factories. These signs held pictures of "Rosie the Riviter". She was a lady showing her muscels and saying "We can do it!".

Now, the unskilled people, however, that did not go out to war, were either starving to death because they didn't have a job or worked at a family business and got enough money to support themselves.
