I believe that the CS stands for Culinary Specialist. You're on the right track, Aggie, he's a cook but back then the rating was 'Commissaryman' and the rank would be First Class Petty Officer. I can't seem to find a picture of the badge, but there would have been an eagle above the insignia with three chevrons below.
There are five that still exist today. There IS NO evidence that one came before the other, however I would lean toward QM's.
Boatswain's Mates, Quartermaster, Gunner's Mate, Master-at-Arms, Cook (now Culinary Specialists [CS]).
This is just one resource and is the ONLY OFFICIAL site:

No. During the 1940s CCTV was not invented. Soldiers would carry cameras with them to capture footage which is how you get all the footage in the history programs you see.
The hydrogen bomb and the intercontinential ballistic missle were the main ones.
There probably would have been no cold war, but there probably would have been WW3, probably starting in early to mid 1950s.
Given that about 10% of the population of Germany belonged to the Party of one of its organizations by 1942, I wonder if it's sensible to try to 'profile' them. In the 1950s and 1960s some would have said, 'authoritarian personalities' but this would presumably have applied mainly to ardent core members.
Soldiers wore uniforms during the civil war so that they would know who was the union and confederate.
A transatlantic cruise in the 1940s and 1950s would have been luxurious. The food and entertainment would have been top of the line and the service would have been tremendous.
Fallout 3 is a videogame that takes place during 2277. The theme of the video game is the aftermath of a nuclear war, and to influence this, music in the video game is from the 1940s or 1950s. Eminem has nothing to do with Fallout 3 and is not included in the music.
Americans had more leisure time during the 1950s because there were more "white collar" jobs. People would work less hours and earn more pay.
World War 2
The late 1950s refers to the time period from about 1957 through 1959. (The photo above is "American Bandstand," a popular teen program during the late 1950s.) The early 1950s would be the time period from about 1950-1953, while the mid-1950s are the period of time from about 1954-1956.
My dick is bigger than a bridge.
The Bridge Gun Company was active from the late 19th century until the mid-20th century, producing firearms primarily during the 1930s and 1940s. The serial number A772301 suggests that this particular .410 shotgun was likely manufactured in the late 1940s or early 1950s. For a precise year, consulting a detailed reference or database specific to Bridge Gun Company serial numbers would be necessary.
The atom was split successfully in early 1940s. In 1945, nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan and thereafter nuclear energy began being used for local energy.
It depends on the date. A 1909 S VDB cent may be worth thousands of dollars, however, wheat cents from the late 1940s and 1950s are only worth 3 or 4 cents.
If you're referring to US History, that would be Senator Joseph McCarthy.
they would walk, ride a bike, or take a train in the 1950s
The story of "Charlotte's Web" is set in a rural American farm during the 1950s.
