You really need to say what time you are asking about. After World War 1 Germany was officially allowed only 100,000 men in the army, 15,000 in the navy and no airforce at all. After World War 2 the German armed forces were dissolved but re-established (within NATO) in 1955. The settlement of 1990, which allowed for German reunification but was also a peace treaty, set an upper limit of 360,000 on Germany's armed forces.

It's eather or... im a member of the armed forces, Navy to be exact. I've been in five years and normally it's said "Enlist in the Armed Forces." ie. He and/or She is enlist ed/ing in the armed forces.
